Election Tuesday! Don't forget to VOTE!

This year is such a big year for elections that even the kids have been asking questions and hearing things about the candidates (on the Bus with the "older" kids).  It has been good for us to be able to talk about it with them and actually have them somewhat interested.

My good friend Anna sent along a great idea of how to get the kids involved with the election process.  I also saw something similar in the LDS Living news letter that I get.  The idea is to have an election for the kids, to determine what dinner will be on election night.  So we thought hey this is a great idea, they have been interested in what the elections are so let's let them vote.  (Then maybe they will eat it if they voted on it.)  So for FHE this week we talked about the importance of voting and what the prophets have counseled us to do concerning voting.  Then we put down our nominees for President (Main Dish), Senator (Vegetable), Congress (Fruit), and Judge (Dessert, we just threw in any government position we wanted).  We changed the names to coincide with actual candidates and this is what we came up with.  It was a lot of fun.

President (Main Dish)
1. (Dad) McCain Cheese
2. (Mom) Palin Pizza
3. (Porter) Romney Burgers
4. (Kyah) Sloppy Joe Biden
5. (Naomi) Obama Lasagna
6. (Mitchell) Lemon Clinton Pasta

Senator (Vegetable)
1. (D) Risch Potatoes
2. (M) Rammell Salad
3. (P) LaRocco Broccoli
4. (K) Pro-Life Beans
5. (N) LaRocco Corn
6. (M) Risch Veggies

Congress (Fruit)
1. Minnick Pears
2. Sali Peaches
3. Minnick Oranges
4. Sali Apples
5. Sali Pineapple
6. Minnick Mix

Judge (Dessert)
1. Baracolate Milk
2. Biden Chip Cookies
3. McCain Ice Cream
4. Oatmeal Palin Cookies
5. Johnny Cake
6. Barac Brownies

We will have the preliminary voting in the next few days to narrow it down to the top two which will determine the two "parties".  We explained to the kids they needed time to think about their vote, that and it was getting late and we were ready for the activity to be over.  We will do our final voting the next MONDAY to make sure I have everything for the meal vote and so that I will have time to make dinner amid Seth and I voting and any other things we have going on that night.

So what would your vote be?  Which "candidate" do you like best?
